Warlocks getting genderbending pets (Source)
I’m happy to share we actually do have plans for offering players a choice between male and female versions of all warlock demons. This is a task already in our system, though I don’t have a time frame for you at the moment. Other art tasks could always take precedence, but we’re committed to making this happen.
What? Isn’t this Warlock news? Yes it is. But this very frequent request sounds a lot like the very frequent hunter request of being able to tame male and female versions of beasts.
If they were to make unique models for each gender for each beast then it would be one of the most time-consuming changes they could ever make because there are a lot of beasts in the game. However, I think it’s worth it because it doesn’t only affect hunters. It affects everyone. The beasts that hunters tame are part of the backdrop of Azeroth that makes this game look and feel like a real living world and if those beasts come off as being more realistic with their separate genders and more animal like interactions (which we’ve seen a lot more of in Cataclysm btw) then the whole world seems so much more alive.
Since the differences between male and female beasts wouldn’t always be so big, maybe it wouldn’t be such an enormous task for the art department after all?
Please make male and female versions of all hunter pets (beasts) as well blizz. It won’t only benefit hunters, but the entire World of Warcraft population!
Achievement Q&A (Source)
Q: When will achievements finally be awarded account-wide?
A: Making achievements Battle.net account-wide is something we’d like to do, but it’s not a goal we could provide a current timetable for. All of the original World of Warcraft coding was done with the expectation that the data on every realm would always be independent. Now that we are trying to make as many things as possible account-wide, we’re having to rebuild all of those systems. It is absolutely something we want to do, but it will take a lot of time away from other features.
This is something that has been mentioned many, many times by now and it is clearly something they want to do. I’m thinking the timetable on it is “closer than it ever was before”. I’m guessing patch 4.3 at the earliest and next expansion at the latest.
Q: Will we ever see a change to the Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin exalted achievement /reputation grinds? While normally a fan of time consuming achievements, these two seem to be a tad excessive.
A: We think those are fine as achievements. They definitely take a huge time commitment, but so do some of the other achievements. And you don’t need to get them for the meta achievements.
Ouch. I was really hoping they’d change these around because of how unreasonably low the reputation gains are per battleground. You can get exalted with the Alterac Valley faction in about 50 runs in there, but for Warsong and Arathi you can run the battlegrounds hundreds of times and still be in neutral.
I’m missing the Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch factions myself and I really don’t feel all that excited about doing them because I absolutely do not enjoy PvP and I never seem to win either of these battlegrounds, leaving me with less than 50 reputation per battleground done.
Q: As some achievements like The Keymaster and the Shen’dralar reputations have been removed, have you considered creating a Feat of Strength for those achievements or is it possible that we get them back in the future like normal achievements?
A: We added a Feat for Exalted Shen’dralar rep in 4.1. We’re unlikely to add a Keymaster feat.
We added the Keymaster achievement and then almost immediately decided to deemphasize the existence of keys in the game, and thus removed the achievement. Unfortunately it probably isn’t even possible to track who had the older keys now.
I was very sad to see the Keymaster achievement disappear when the Cataclysmic pre-expansion patch arrived and I really hoped for it to return. Guess I won’t get my wish.
I don’t get it though, keys are awesome and fun!
Patch 4.1 PTR changes (April 12)
- The criteria on many of the profession-related guild achievements has been significantly reduced
You can see more specifically how much they were reduced on MMO-Champion . It looks a bit like my guild will be getting almost all of the achievements immediately after the patch…
- The Network category contains the options “Optimize network for speed” and “Enable IPv6 when available”. “Optimize network for speed” will be enabled by default, and will send packets more frequently at the cost of higher bandwidth. The higher bandwidth may lead to disconnects for some players who have limited bandwidth. Players getting disconnected frequently should try unchecking this box.
I remember the blues talking about this change a few months ago and them saying they had to disable it due to it causing about 5% of their customers to have an even worse experience with their connection. I guess this is the solution, making it optional. I wonder why it took them months to figure out that making it optional would fix the problem of a small amount of people suffering from the change, but ok. I’m all for it. :)
