There has been a lot more datamining done on the 4.1 PTR servers and on top of that there has been some official blue posts with new changes. So here follows a bit of a round-up of the latest stuff, most of it non-huntery.
- Deterrence no longer requires a melee weapon to be equipped.
Yay! Wooo! *dance*
In your FACE shadow priests, rogues and whatever else class it is that keeps disarming me, you bastards.
Mysterious AOE ability tweaks
Update (2011/03/03): Seems like these abilities are part of the new Zul’Aman Hex Lord Malacress encounter. The boss randomly soul drains a member and gains abilities which are related to that class. Slightly buffed ofc. 🙂
Explosive Trap: Place a fire trap that explodes when an enemy approaches, causing 21875 to 28125 Fire damage and burning all enemies for 40000 additional Fire damage over 10 sec to all within 10 yards.
Freezing Trap: Place a frost trap that freezes an enemy and their surrounding allies within 10 yards, preventing all action for up to 10 sec.
Snake Trap: Place a trap that will release several venomous snakes to attack the first enemy to approach.
Other than these we see changes to a lot of other class abilities such as Chain Lightning, Frost Nova, Consecration, Fire Nova Totem, Rain of Fire. But here’s the thing… these spell tooltip changes are all currently listed under NPC ability changes so these might just be for some encounter with mind control in it or a Faction Champions kind of fight.
Or… they’re just in the wrong place and these are actual changes. They have stated that they want to balance the AOE damage that each class and specc provides so that it isn’t as hopelessly onesided as it is now and buffing Explosive Trap would be a perfect way to do that.
The wording of the new Freezing Trap tooltip sounds a bit like an NPC ability to me though, since it has the word “allies” in it.
- Ambassador of the Horde now requires you to be exalted with Bilgewater Cartel.
- Ambassador of the Alliance now requires you to be exalted with Gilneas.
- Flying mounts can now be used in Ghostlands.
- The gold amounts on the following encounters have been substantially reduced: Flame Leviathan, Magtheridon, Gruul the Dragonkiller, Doom Lord Kazzak, and all encounters in Karazhan.
- Like the Focus Frame, the character Unit and Target Frames can now be unlocked and moved to one’s content.
We can now fly in Ghostlands, very nice. Obviously this is because of the new version of Zul’Aman so we might be travelling there in the future. However this change falls completely flat due to the fact that we still can’t fly on Isle of Quel’Danas or Eversong Woods and that is the route most people will take (Major City portal to Blasted Lands -> Outland -> Shattrath -> Isle of Quel’Danas -> fly by taxi to Zul’Aman).
MoveAnything has just become slightly less useful! Now if Blizzard could stop making certain elements movable and go full out and actually enable us to move anything, we wouldn’t need this addon anymore.
Winterspring Frostsaber change
Like I predicted in my previous post, Blizzard has redesigned the Wintersaber Frostsaber grind from the horrendous repeatable quests to a 20-day daily quest grind which is very similar to the Venomhide grind that the horde has.
This could mean that the Wintersaber Trainers faction gets removed and that we who have done the old grind gets to keep our old feat of strength and the ones who do the new one gets a different feat of strength or achievement.
Random Death Knight change
- Raise Ally has been redesigned to be a battle resurrection, analogous to Rebirth. It is instant cast, but costs 50 Runic Power to use, and has a 10-minute cooldown. It shares the same global battle resurrection cap with Rebirth and Soulstone.
It’s probably best you read this and remember it because battle resurrections affect us all… Well, most of us. Some of us are so awesome that we never ever die and never ever need resurrections! I’m suggesting that some of us might be me but in reality I’m not even some of us…
Also – back on topic and off the drugs – I liked the old ghoul ress, that was cool and unique to the Death Knight class! I feel it’s a bit of a shame that it’s changed to just another normal battle ress. Yeah it’s more balanced, but it’s boring.
All of the three specc guides have been updated for 4.0.6. After lots of research, testing and careful consideration I decided for some very specific recommendations. Some of these are directly opposite that of WHU and hunter sites. I list my reasons for my choices whenever they are the slightest bit controversial.
And of course all the other guides were updated a while ago to be current for 4.0.6. The only guide that isn’t entirely relevant is the gear guide which will get an overhaul sometime soon.
